Life is Like A Huge Monopoly Game

Do you make money? Are you independent? Do you pay bills on your own? Do you crave for bags and shoes and are able to indulge yourself with the things you need and want? Well, if you do, then I believe you're doing a great job.

I think life is never as easy as a piece of cake. You don't get a huge chocolate cake with just a snap of your fingers, you can't reach the bottom of the sea and wander around the amazing home of dolphins and seahorses by just tossing your last coin to the wishing well, and a genie won't even grant you another 3 wishes. Because life is real and with real, you don't just sit there. You work hard and perform your own strategy to be able to survive.

Have you ever played Monopoly - that board game where your life begins with several bills on your hand. It's either you're the one who builds hotels and collects rent fees from anyone who lands on your property; or you're the one praying not to land on jail and considers passing "GO" as his only hope against bankruptcy.

I think life can be compared to a big "Monopoly" game. But in reality you don't just hand a big amount of money to the banker and have the title deed in exchange. You don't just keep a million or billion bills at home. In reality, it's a longer yet organized process wherein you deposit money in a reliable bank and you may even use checks so you can pay bills in a safe way. Such activities, deposits made, checks written, cancelled checks, etc,  are recorded and taken care of by the process we call Bank Reconciliation.

Work harder, learn more, dream bigger and you will have a happy ever after.

Getting to know Business Math

Do you like Math? Or are you one of those who dread the thought of Geometry, Trigonometry, or even just the basic term we are engaging with since gradeschool, the "MDAS" (Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction).

I'm not one of the Math geeks who join quiz bees or those who can answer even the most difficult problem that seems impossible to be solved. But definitely, I'm also not adding myself to the population of Math haters. I do, like Mathematics. Back in first year college, I remember looking at our curriculum, and hoping for any Math course, I saw Statistics and Business Math on the list.

Many of us, even once in our lives, especially when we were struggling on those x's and y's in our highschool Algebra, did wonder what's the use of memorizing all those formulas when in fact, we don't use x's and y's in paying bills, in buying food or even in counting 1, 2, 3. It is always important that when you take a course subject, you should know its purpose, for you to appreciate it and be encouraged to learn it.

First meeting was finding out that our Professor would be Sir Crisencio Paner (who was also my Statistics professor two years back). The class seemed adjusting to the new environment (new block) but it's really more of familiarizing ourselves to the new subject. Google said, "Business Math is mathematics used by commercial enterprises to record and manage business operations." Wow, sounds cool yet complicated.

Sir Paner talked about several terms and formulas we need in the subject. I'm glad I have notes (from that lecture) written on my notebook that will be useful to read when test comes. But that's not the point. What I really earned here is the knowledge. Sir Paner taught us the important basics in Business Math, things concerning profit and loss, inspiring thoughts in handling business, importance of blogging and many more. I've learned a lot in just one meeting. I'm really grateful I get to know and realize how useful this course is especially that having a business is one of my future goals. I am really lovin' Math even more.  So getting to know the importance of Business Math? I guess no one can even enumerate all the reasons why Business Math's a big help to one's success.

P.S. Here's a glimpse of our previous meeting. Friends and I with our "OMG-it's-Math!" faces.
